A MOPA fibre laser does the everyday work of a standard fibre laser, plus three jobs a standard one struggles with: colour on stainless steel, a true black on anodised aluminium, and clean marks on plastic that don’t melt or bubble. The difference is pulse width. On this machine you set it yourself, anywhere from 2 to 500 nanoseconds, which means you decide how much heat goes into the surface. Short pulses give sharp black marks on anodised parts and crisp edges on plastic. Longer pulses warm stainless steel just enough to colour it. It runs a 60W JPT MOPA source with an original JCZ Ezcad controller and a 110 × 110 mm field, plugs into a normal 220V plug point and needs no chiller. We bring it in from the factory in China by air, clear it through customs and deliver it to your door with a 2-year warranty.
MOPA stands for Master Oscillator Power Amplifier. The name doesn’t matter much — what matters is the one setting it adds. Every fibre laser marks with thousands of tiny pulses of light every second. A standard fibre laser fires pulses of a fixed length: you can make them stronger or more frequent, but you can’t make each pulse shorter or longer. A MOPA lets you choose that length, from 2 nanoseconds up to 500.
Short pulses hit hard and are gone before the heat has time to spread. That’s why plastics don’t melt and bubble, and why anodised aluminium turns a true black instead of a washed-out grey. Long pulses do the opposite and warm the surface steadily. On stainless steel that grows a very thin oxide layer, and the colour you see depends on how thick it grows — the same blue and gold you see in the heat tint next to a weld. Control the heat and you control the colour.
Be honest about the work before you pay for the extra. If you mostly mark serial numbers, barcodes and logos on steel and aluminium, or you need deep engraving, a standard fibre laser does that well for a lot less — our 20W, 30W and 50W fibre laser marking machines start at R55,430 incl. VAT. Choose the MOPA when colour on stainless, black on anodised aluminium or plastic parts are a real part of your orders, or when customers are already asking for them. It still handles the everyday marking the standard machines do.
We buy the machine straight from the factory in China and land it ourselves, so you pay an import price rather than a distributor’s mark-up. It carries the same JPT MOPA source that many local suppliers fit, and the price you see is the delivered price — air freight, customs, duty and VAT included — with a 2-year warranty and no import paperwork on your side.
MOPA lasers go to engravers, jewellers and manufacturers across the region, not only in South Africa. The desktop unit is small enough to air freight, so it is at your door anywhere in South Africa roughly two to three weeks after payment. We quote the onward leg to Windhoek and Walvis Bay, Gaborone and Francistown, Maputo, and Harare and Bulawayo as one delivered price. Namibia and Botswana sit inside SACU with South Africa, so a machine moving on from us does not pick up a second round of customs duty. Mozambique and Zimbabwe clear separately and we build that into the price. The 2-year warranty applies wherever the machine is delivered.
